What is an AI receptionist?
It's a phone assistant that answers the calls you can't get to. It talks to the caller in your business name, finds out who they are and what they need, and texts you the details as soon as the call ends. Mine is called Sam. It runs on Twilio for the phone line and Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic, for the conversation.
How much does an AI receptionist cost in Rockhampton?
With Michael Evans Media it's $499 to set up (half to start, half once you've tested it) and then $249 a month, month to month. That includes up to 100 answered calls a month. Extra calls are $1 each. Calls your phone provider forwards may be charged on your own phone plan, so check whether diverted calls are included.
Do I have to change my phone number?
No. You keep your number. Your phone forwards only the calls you don't answer (after about 20 seconds, when you're busy, or after hours) to the receptionist's number. If you answer, it never gets involved.
Will callers know they're talking to an AI?
It answers in your business name and talks like a person on the phone, but if someone asks whether it's a robot or AI, it always says yes and tells them you'll ring back yourself. It never claims to be human.
Can it book jobs or give prices?
It takes the booking request (name, number, car or job, what's wrong, when they'd like it done) and sends it to you and into your booking form where possible. It doesn't confirm a time or quote a price, because it can't see your diary and shouldn't guess what a job costs. You lock in the time when you ring or text them back.
Does it work after hours and on weekends?
Yes. Any call that isn't answered gets answered by the receptionist, day or night, and the text is waiting for you.
Are the calls recorded?
No. Calls aren't recorded. A written transcript of each call is kept on Michael Evans Media's server so I can check how it went and fix the script. You can ask for a business's transcripts to be deleted when you finish.
Is it available now?
