Michael Evans Media runs on software I built myself. My accounting and invoicing system does the quotes, invoices, bills and bank reconciliation, and my accountant logs in to it to check the reports. Clients see and approve their social posts in a content approval dashboard before anything goes out. My referral partners work from a CRM with a built-in dialler, and when they book a call it lands straight in my diary.
I also run a live business dashboard on a wall screen with leads, money owed and the day's to-dos, refreshed every 10 minutes. On client websites I've hooked up live booking systems too. A Rockhampton training organisation's site pulls its course dates and bookings straight from their training system, so the dates on the site match what can actually be booked.

Plenty of local businesses run on paper forms, a group chat and a spreadsheet only one person understands. A pre-start checklist goes missing right before an audit. A new starter does their induction off a photocopy. A job gets missed because the details were sitting in someone's texts. Off-the-shelf software can fix some of that, but you often end up paying for features you'll never use and changing how you work to suit the software. I write up what the app will do, screen by screen, and give you a fixed price before any work starts. If the scope changes, the quote is updated in writing first.
BUILT IN STAGES
The first stage is the smallest version that does the main job. You try it on your own phone, tell me what's wrong, and then we build the next part.
HOSTING, BACKUPS AND UPDATES
Once it's live I host it, back it up and keep it updated for a monthly fee. New features are quoted as they come up.

How much does a custom app cost?
It depends on what it has to do, so every app is quoted per project after we scope it. A simple checklist or booking tool costs a lot less than a client portal with logins and reports. You get a fixed quote in writing before any work starts, and the monthly fee for hosting, backups and updates is shown up front.
How long does an app take to build?
That depends on the scope. I keep the first stage small on purpose so you can start using it early, and the written scope says how long each stage will take before you agree to it.
Is it a phone app or a web app?
Most of what I build is a web app. It runs in the browser on any phone, tablet or computer, and staff can add it to their home screen so it opens like any other app. You skip the app store approval and nobody has to download updates. If you need it in the App Store or Google Play, tell me early and I'll tell you straight whether it's worth the extra cost.
Who owns the data?
You do. Everything your business puts into the app is yours, and you can ask for a full export at any time. If your app runs on a system I also license to other businesses, the code stays mine, but your records are never shared with anyone else.
What happens after it goes live?
I host it, back it up and keep it updated for a monthly fee, and you deal with me directly if something breaks or you want a change. New features and bigger changes are quoted before I start, so there are no surprise bills.
Can it connect to my existing systems?
Often, yes. If a system has a way in, like an API, a booking widget or a data export, I can usually pull information from it or send information to it. I've already connected a client's website to their training booking system so course dates show live. I check what your systems allow during scoping, and the answer goes in the written scope.
